Bank Paybill Numbers in Kenya 2026: M-PESA Deposit Numbers for 36 Banks

Quick answer: To deposit from M-PESA into a Kenyan bank account, go to Lipa na M-PESA, choose Pay Bill, enter the bank’s business number and use the bank account number as the account number. The most used paybills are KCB 522522, Equity 247247, Co-operative Bank 400200, NCBA 880100, Absa 303030, Standard Chartered 329329, Stanbic 600100, Family Bank 222111 and DTB 516600. We checked each number against the bank’s own website or documents where the bank publishes it. Where a bank does not, we used Safaricom’s published list of bank paybills and say so in the table. Some banks on Safaricom’s list appear under older names, which we note. Always confirm the account name on the M-PESA confirmation screen before you enter your PIN.

Bank Paybill Numbers in Kenya (2026)

“Bank website” means the number appears on the bank’s own site, tariff guide or product document. “Safaricom list” means Safaricom’s published table of bank paybills. SWIFT codes are as listed in the Central Bank of Kenya’s settlement (KEPSS) schedule; “Not listed” means the bank does not appear there under its current name, so ask the bank for its code.

How to Deposit to a Bank Account from M-PESA

1. Open the M-PESA menu or app, or dial *334#.
2. Select Lipa na M-PESA, then Pay Bill.
3. Enter the bank’s business number from the table.
4. Enter the account number in the format the bank asks for, with no spaces or hyphens.
5. Enter the amount.
6. Enter your M-PESA PIN and check the name on the confirmation screen.
7. Keep the M-PESA message until the deposit shows in the account.

Account Number Formats That Catch People Out

• DTB: 10-digit account number from M-PESA. From Airtel Money, DTB says to enter your branch code followed by the 10-digit account number.
• Family Bank: the full 12-digit account number. Family Bank’s Visa prepaid card uses a different paybill, 222169, with the 16-digit card number.
• Habib Bank A.G. Zurich: the bank’s own guide says to enter the last six digits of your account number.
• Paramount Bank: the 12-digit account number.
• M Oriental Bank and Access Bank: the full 13-digit account number.
• National Bank school accounts: NBK’s school fee page uses the format SCH, then the school code, then the admission number, on paybill 625625.

Numbers That Differ Between Sources

Guardian Bank: the bank’s February 2025 tariff guide gives paybill 344500, while Safaricom’s list shows 344501. We list 344500 from the bank’s own document. Check that the name on the confirmation screen is Guardian Bank before you pay.

National Bank of Kenya: NBK lists both 625625 and 547700 for M-PESA deposits. Safaricom’s list shows 547700. Either works according to NBK.

Middle East Bank Kenya: we could not find a paybill on the bank’s own site, so we have not listed one. Ask the bank before you send money.

Banks Listed Under Older Names

Safaricom’s list predates several mergers and rebrands. Absa Bank Kenya appears as Barclays, NCBA as Commercial Bank of Africa, Stanbic as CFC Stanbic, Kingdom Bank as Jamii Bora Bank, and SBM Bank Kenya under Chase Bank, whose business it took over. The numbers in the table are the ones carried by those banks today. Access Bank Kenya’s 862862, formerly Transnational Bank’s number, is confirmed in Access Bank’s own product documents.

What It Costs to Deposit

Paying into a bank paybill costs the standard Safaricom paybill charge for the amount band, unless the bank absorbs it. Some banks add their own charge and others say they charge nothing to receive. Family Bank’s tariff guide lists paybill deposits at nil, and DTB says its deposits are subject only to mobile network charges. If the Money Does Not Reflect

First check the account number in the M-PESA confirmation message. A mistyped account number is the usual cause, and the money normally sits unallocated at the bank rather than disappearing. Call the bank with the M-PESA transaction code, the amount, the time and the account number you used. Do not send a second payment until the first has been traced.

Sending Money from a Bank to M-PESA

The reverse direction does not use a paybill. Use the bank’s app or USSD code, for example DTB’s *382#, Family Bank’s *325# or NBK’s *625#, and choose the send to M-PESA option. The bank sets the charge for this direction, so check its tariff.
