The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) places government-sponsored students in universities, TVET colleges and KMTC. Students do almost everything through the KUCCPS student portal: applying, revising choices, checking eligibility and seeing where they were placed. This guide explains how to log in, what each part of the portal does and where your admission letter actually comes from.

KUCCPS Student Portal at a Glance

Item Detail
Portal address students.kuccps.net
Log in with KCSE index number, KCSE year and password
First password Your KCPE index number or birth certificate number, as used when registering for KCSE

How to Log In

  1. Open students.kuccps.net.
  2. Enter your KCSE index number exactly as on your result slip.
  3. Select or type your KCSE examination year.
  4. Enter your password. The first time, this is your KCPE index number or birth certificate number, whichever was used during KCSE registration.
  5. Log in and change your password to one only you know.

What Each Section Does

Section Use it to
Profile Check your name, contacts and email; update your phone number and email
Programmes Search courses by institution, cluster or keyword and see their requirements
Eligibility check See which programmes your grades qualify you for
Application Choose courses in order of preference when the window is open
Payment Pay the application fee through the payment option shown
Revision Change your choices during the revision window, if offered
Placement results See the programme and institution you were placed in
Transfers Apply to move to another programme or institution when transfers open

Who Uses the Portal

The portal is for KCSE candidates who meet minimum entry requirements and want government-sponsored places, as well as candidates applying for diploma, certificate and artisan courses in TVET colleges and KMTC. Students who were placed earlier also return to it when inter-institution transfers open. Candidates from older KCSE years can use it too, by selecting the right examination year at login. Keep your login details safe, because you may need the portal again during transfers.

Applying and Revising Choices

  1. Check your cluster points and the past cut-off points for each course. Our guide on how KUCCPS cluster points are calculated explains the numbers.
  2. Pick choices in order of preference, mixing competitive and less competitive options.
  3. Pay the application fee shown in the portal and confirm the payment reflects.
  4. Submit and print or save a copy of your choices.
  5. Watch for the revision window if you were not placed in the first round.

Payments made through eCitizen sometimes take time to reflect. Keep the payment message and check again before paying twice. Our guide to logging in to eCitizen helps with account problems.

Where Your Admission Letter Comes From

KUCCPS does not issue admission letters. After placement, the university, college or KMTC campus you were placed in issues the admission letter and joining instructions. Many institutions publish them on their own websites or portals, where you log in with your KCSE index number. Some ask you to accept the offer before you can download the letter. Follow the institution’s instructions and reporting date carefully.

Common Problems and Fixes

  • Wrong password. Try both your KCPE index number and birth certificate number, then use the password reset option.
  • Index number not recognised. Check the format and the year selected.
  • Not placed. Apply in the next revision round and choose courses you clearly qualify for.
  • Payment not reflecting. Wait, keep the receipt, then contact KUCCPS support.

Before You Report to Campus

  1. Download and read the admission letter and joining instructions from the institution.
  2. Note the reporting date, fees, documents and any medical forms required.
  3. Prepare your KCSE result slip or certificate, birth certificate or ID, and passport photos.
  4. Apply for HELB funding if you need it, using your placement details.
  5. Confirm accommodation options early, since hostels fill fast.

If anything in the letter is unclear, contact the institution’s admissions office directly rather than relying on social media posts.

Plan Your Costs

After placement, plan fees and funding early. See our university fees guide, our TVET fees guide and the HELB help hub for loans and scholarships.
