Mwalimu Sacco Wezesha loan

Wezesha is built for new members. You can apply once your first savings deduction goes through, rather than waiting months to build deposits. The terms:

  • For new members only.
  • Rate of 1.13% a month, or 13.5% a year.
  • Repayable over up to 72 months.
  • A 2% processing fee on the amount advanced.
  • A quarter of the amount you apply for is kept in your account as savings, and boosted shares earn dividends on a pro-rata basis.
  • The maximum amount depends on your ability to repay, and the loan must be fully guaranteed.

Wezesha loan requirements

  1. Active membership, with at least one savings deduction received.
  2. Payslip showing the repayment fits within the one-third salary rule.
  3. Guarantors who together cover the full loan.
  4. A completed loan application form and a copy of your ID.

On a KSh 400,000 Wezesha loan over 72 months, the repayment is about KSh 8,136 a month, and KSh 100,000 of the loan stays with the Sacco as your savings.

Buying off loans with the Ufanisi loan

The Ufanisi loan is the Mwalimu product for a loan buy-off. It is for members with enough salary but low shares, and lets you bridge and consolidate other loans. Part of the loan is kept as deposits to raise your multiplier. The terms are a 120-month period, a 5x multiplier and 17% a year, recovered at a flat monthly rate. If the Sacco boosts your shares, it charges a 10% boosting fee; if you boost them yourself, you wait the mandatory three months before applying.

Requirements: active membership, salary paid through the Mwalimu FOSA, all loan accounts up to date, a completed form, supporting documents and an irrevocable instruction not to change your pay point until the loan is repaid. Because the rate is flat, KSh 1 million over 120 months costs about KSh 22,500 a month, which is more than a reducing-balance loan at the same headline rate.

Mwalimu Sacco loan repayment schedule examples

  • KSh 200,000 School Fees loan at 12% over 24 months: about KSh 9,415 a month.
  • KSh 1 million Development loan at 14.5% over 60 months: about KSh 23,528 a month.
  • KSh 1 million Super loan at 15% over 84 months: about KSh 19,297 a month.
  • KSh 1 million Ufanisi loan at 17% flat over 120 months: about KSh 22,500 a month.

Your actual schedule, with insurance and fees, comes with your loan offer. Ask for it before you sign.

The one-third salary rule

Mwalimu loans are subject to the one-third rule: after all deductions, your net pay must stay at least a third of your basic salary. This often limits teachers more than the deposit multiplier does, so clear small loans or raise deposits before applying for a big one.

How to apply for Mwalimu Sacco loans

  1. Choose the product and check that your multiplier and payslip support the amount.
  2. Download the loan form from the Sacco’s site or collect one at a branch.
  3. Line up guarantors and attach your payslip and ID.
  4. Submit the form at a branch or through the members’ portal.
