Updated 25 October 2026
The official M-KOPA Paybill number in Kenya is 333222. You pay into it through M-Pesa, and the account number is the national ID number you used when you registered with M-KOPA. That single Paybill covers phone deposits, daily, weekly and monthly instalments, and loan repayments. This guide shows the exact M-Pesa steps, the other way to pay through the M-KOPA app, how to pay for someone else, and what to do if a payment goes wrong.
Everything here comes from M-KOPA’s own Kenya page and its Kenya terms of service, checked in October 2026. Both say the same thing about payment: M-Pesa Paybill 333222 or the M-KOPA app, and nothing else.

How to pay M-KOPA via M-Pesa Paybill
- Open the M-Pesa menu on your phone (SIM Toolkit) or the M-Pesa app.
- Select Lipa na M-Pesa, then Pay Bill.
- Enter 333222 as the business number.
- Enter your ID number as the account number. Use the same ID you gave when you signed up.
- Enter the amount you want to pay.
- Enter your M-Pesa PIN and confirm.
- Wait for the M-Pesa confirmation SMS and keep it until M-KOPA has credited your account.
In the M-Pesa app the steps are the same: tap Pay, choose Pay Bill, then fill in 333222 and your ID number. If you are new to Paybills, our guide to Lipa na M-Pesa tills and Paybills explains the difference between a till and a Paybill.
How to pay through the M-KOPA app
M-KOPA also lets you pay inside its own app:
- Sign in to the M-KOPA app.
- Tap Pay Now.
- Follow the prompts to complete the payment.
This is the only alternative to the Paybill that M-KOPA recognises. Payment links sent by strangers, personal M-Pesa numbers and agent tills are not official channels.
Never pay M-KOPA in cash
M-KOPA’s Kenya terms say no other form of payment, including cash, will be accepted or treated as valid. Its stores and agents do not take cash, and the company tells customers never to pay outside the approved channels. If an agent, a caller or anyone claiming to work for M-KOPA asks you for cash or for money to a personal number, the terms ask you to tell customer service or email customerprotection@m-kopa.com straight away. Money paid that way may never reach your account.

Can someone else pay for my M-KOPA phone?
Yes. M-KOPA’s terms say it accepts payments made to your account by a third party, and treats them as payments made on your behalf. A relative can pay to Paybill 333222 using your ID number as the account number. The terms also make clear that the person paying gets no rights over the phone, the account, refunds or account information, and any arrangement between you and them is your own responsibility.
How often you pay
M-KOPA sells smartphones on credit. You make a deposit, take the phone home, and then pay daily, weekly or monthly until the total is cleared, or you can clear it early. The terms say each payment goes towards your outstanding balance until you have paid the total, and that credit payments are not refundable even if you later return the product. M-KOPA says paying consistently is how you build a credit history with it, and that paying well every day unlocks access to its digital loans after three months.
Your phone and your SIM
M-KOPA phones carry a SIM secure feature. The phone works only with the SIM you registered, and it locks if a different SIM is inserted, including when a lost or stolen phone gets someone else’s SIM. If you need to change your SIM card or phone number, M-KOPA asks you to visit an M-KOPA shop with your ID. Keep this in mind before you swap lines, because a locked phone is not a payment problem and paying more will not fix it.
What to do if a payment does not reflect
- Check the account number. Most problems come from typing the wrong ID number. Compare the M-Pesa SMS with your ID.
- Check the business number. It must be 333222. A payment to any other Paybill goes to that business, not M-KOPA.
- Call or email M-KOPA. Contact 0707 333 222 or customercare.ke@m-kopa.com with the M-Pesa transaction code, the amount, the date and your ID number.
- If you paid the wrong Paybill, you will need to contact that business or Safaricom about a reversal, because M-KOPA cannot see the money.
