Updated 31 October 2026
Nyati Sacco prices its loans by repayment period: the longer you take, the higher the rate. Development loans cost 1.15% over 60 months, 1.35% over 72 months and 1.45% over 84 months. Short-term loans cost 1.25% over 12 months, 1.35% over 18 months and 1.4% over 24 months. Both lend up to 4 times your deposits, and interest is charged on a reducing balance. The Sacco’s rate tables do not say whether these are monthly or annual rates, but at this level they are almost certainly monthly, so confirm with the Sacco. The Sacco also has a Keja Loan for buying or building a home. Details come from Nyati Sacco’s BOSA loan products page, checked on October 31, 2026.

Development and short-term loan requirements
- Development loans: three current payslips, at least three guarantors, and copies of your ID and your guarantors’ IDs. If you are not on check-off, add a six-month bank or M-Pesa statement.
- Short-term (emergency) loans: three current payslips, a copy of your ID, and at least two guarantors with copies of their IDs. Repayment is up to 12 months on the standard product.
Keja Loan: buying or building a home
For a home purchase you need three months of certified payslips, six months of bank statements for every bank you use, and an irrevocable check-off authority. You also need copies of your ID and KRA PIN, a letter of offer or draft sale agreement, a copy of the title or lease, and a valuation report if you have one.
For a construction loan you need the same income and ID documents plus:
- the title or lease in your name and proof that land rates or rent are paid;
- approved architectural drawings, and structural drawings for maisonettes;
- a priced bill of quantities and construction schedule from a qualified quantity surveyor;
- professional profiles of the architect, QS, engineer and contractor, plus approval from the National Construction Authority (NCA).
Self-employed applicants must also provide business registration documents and three years of business accounts.
How the Keja Loan process works
- Check your eligibility with the Sacco’s loans team and apply with the sale agreement, title copy, ID, KRA PIN and income documents.
- Choose a valuer from the Sacco’s list and pay the valuation fee so the report is released.
- The loan is assessed and approved. You then take out CIC Domestic Package insurance on the property.
- Choose a lawyer from the Sacco’s list to register the charge. The Sacco issues a letter of undertaking to the seller.
- Once the charged title is received, the money is paid out. Nyati says this legal stage takes about 90 days. You pay the lawyer’s fees and stamp duty.
What the term choice costs
Here is our own estimate, assuming monthly reducing-balance rates. A KSh 1 million development loan over 60 months at 1.15% costs about KSh 23,200 a month and roughly KSh 390,000 in interest. Over 84 months at 1.45% it is about KSh 20,700 a month, but interest rises to roughly KSh 736,000. The longer term saves about KSh 2,500 a month but costs about KSh 346,000 extra.
