The Act adds new hardware categories and raises fees for kiosks and salons offering extra services.

What changed in the 2025 Act

Comparing the approved 2023/2024 charges with the 2025/2026 column in the same schedule shows a few clear changes. Large traders in Zone A now pay KSh25,000, up from KSh20,000. Kiosk fees went up in every size band, with a small kiosk in Zone A rising from KSh2,000 to KSh3,000. Salons and barbershops that offer extra services such as massage, manicure or pedicure now pay a flat KSh5,000 in all zones, while a basic salon is unchanged. Hardware shops and mobile distributors from outside the county have their own categories for the first time, and the annual option for small informal traders rose sharply from KSh1,200 to KSh5,000 in Zone A.

Before you pay, confirm your category with the revenue officer and ask for the bill in writing. Floor area and staff numbers decide the band, so measure your premises and keep a copy of your staff list in case the assessment is disputed.

How to apply

  1. Register the business and get a KRA PIN.
  2. Apply at the county revenue office or sub-county office, giving your activity, staff numbers, floor area and location.
