What this means for your wallet
Here is our own estimate, not a Sacco quote. A KSh 50,000 Airlift loan repaid in one month at 10% costs KSh 5,000. The same KSh 50,000 as a Bash loan at 14% a year over 12 months costs about KSh 3,900 in total interest, spread over a whole year. If you can plan ahead, the long-term products are far cheaper. Use Airlift and Salary Advance only for short, genuine gaps.
The Maisha loan suits new members, since it is available after just three deductions, but it comes with a condition: 34% of the amount is ploughed back into your deposits, so you receive less cash than you borrow. Wezesha suits long-standing members whose payslips are stretched, because it consolidates loans over seven years. Read our Sacco loan buy-off guide before refinancing.
